The Features as they prepare for their live gig on Moheak Radio

The Features are one those supurb live bands. A popular tweet following their last LA show was that their music comes from the groin. They absolutely crushed it on their Jimmy Kimmel performance last July. Their Satellite LA show was more of the same, although it took them a few songs to hit their groove. Earlier that evening, they stopped by Moheak Radio for a live set and interview, which I hosted and which they nailed. Good guys, and they’ve got lots of depth on their Wilderness album.

Blake Miller was lead singer of Moving Units until earlier this year.  I Am Blake Miller played their first gig at The Satellite LA. It was just a matter of getting their feet wet as Blake was only joined by his cool bass player. He’s got a new drummer, who probably was still learning the music. Blake’s tunes continue to be danceable, and what came through was that he’s got some tight new songs.

Sleeper Agent hit the Bootleg Theater. This young Bowling Green band has a hooky, straight-ahead style that still sounds indie. They’ve got some serious depth on their debut album, which just came out. Their show contained the anticipated fun and energy, and they’ll only get tighter with more time on the road.

Dum Dum Girls sold out The Troubadour. While their sophomore album has a cleaner sound, the live set remains very lo-fi. Their strong song writing was harder to detect because everything sounded pretty much the same. The crowd’s enthusiasm waned a bit as the show progressed, but I think this is something the band will overcome with more time on the road.
